Folsom woman identified in deadly rollover crash

FOLSOM, CA - The Sacramento County coroner released the name of the woman who died in what police said was an alcohol and speed-related crash last Friday night as Kimberly Ann Bryant, 45, of Folsom.

Bryant died when the Pontiac Grand Prix she was a passenger in rolled and hit a tree on Folsom Boulevard.

Folsom police officers responding to the crash found the driver, James Bekwith, 52, sitting in the center divide.

Bryant was still trapped inside of the mangled car, police said. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Bekwith was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Investigators also noted that incorrect use of a seatbelt may have played a role in Bryant's death, said Sgt. Chris Emery.

Police were awaiting toxicology tests on the driver to determine whether to file charges in the case.

Speed, alcohol responsible for Folsom Fatal Accident

FOLSOM, CA - Speed, alcohol, and improper use of a seat belt all played a part in a fatal Folsom Boulevard accident last night, according to Folsom Police.

Officers responding to the single car crash found James Bekwith, 52, sitting in the center divide next to his severely damaged Pontiac Grand Prix.

The Rancho Cordova man, who was concious and alert, told officers his girlfriend was still trapped inside the vehicle.

Inside, paramedics found the 45-year-old woman improperly strapped in her seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bekwith was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses told investigators the car took off at high speeds from a traffic signal, lost control, rolled over twice, and hit a large Oak Tree.

Investigators say alcohol likely played a part in the crash, though they are waiting for a toxicology report to confirm this.
