UPDATE: Folsom wrong way DUI driver injuries family

FOLSOM, CA - According to Folsom police, a car collision Friday night that sent four people to the hospital was caused by a drunk driver traveling in the wrong direction.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Iron Point Rd and Black Diamond Dr. when a Nissan Sentra and a Toyota Camry collided head-on.

The driver of the Sentra was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Iron Point Rd., causing the accident.

El Dorado Hills resident Karen Ann Benedict, 32, was arrested for driving under the influence resulting in serious injuries.She was later released, so she could manage her injuries caused in the collision.

The three family members traveling in the Camry were treated at local hospitals for serious injuries. At the time of this post, their identities were being held.

The investigation results will be forwarded to the DA's office with criminal charge recommendations.

Man detained after taking son on police chase

FOLSOM, CA - A man was detained after leading police on a destructive car chase while his 7-year-old son was in the front seat the whole time Friday night.

Folsom police Sgt. Jason Browning said medical reasons lead to the incident, but did not release any more details.

Witnesses called Folsom police to report a drunk driver in a Ford Expedition just after 9 p.m., but when police tried pull the man over at Folsom-Auburn and Greenback, he keep going, Browning said.

The driver led police into a Safeway parking lot on Hazel and Madison, where he side swiped a police car and hit another head-on. Browning said those officers suffered minor injuries.

The driver then drove to Britland Way, where he crashed into a power pole and keep driving until he drove into the side of a home at the end of the 8800 block.

Browning said the man was questioned by police and no charges have been filed as of Friday night.

4 injured in Folsom drunk driving crash

FOLSOM, CA - Four people were seriously injured in a head-on crash with a woman suspected of drunk driving Friday around 10 p.m.

The 32-year-old driver was driving the wrong way on Iron Point Road and Black Diamond Drive, Folsom police Sgt. Jason Browning said.

The four victims were transported with serious injuries to a hospital for treatment.

Browning said the woman was arrested for a DUI.

Folsom attorneys busted for loan mod fraud

SACRAMENTO, CA - Three Sacramento-area attorneys were arrested Thursday and charged with bilking homeowners out of thousands of dollars in upfront loan modification fees.

Arrested on 19 felony counts each were the owners of Folsom-based Flahive Law Corporation: Gregory Flahive, 39, of El Dorado Hills and his ex-wife Cynthia Flahive, 41, of Folsom, along with the firm's managing attorney Mike Johnson, 42, of Elk Grove.

Gregory Flahive is a former employee of disgraced "tax lady" Roni Deutch, who surrendered her license to practice law last year in the wake of unrelated investigations into her national tax relief business.

Flahive was also a high-profile and prolific bankruptcy attorney, advertising his services on local TV.

Court records show Flahive filed 850 bankruptcy cases in the Eastern District of California between 2009 and 2011.

Officials investigate killing of prison inmate

FOLSOM, CA (AP) - Prison officials are investigating the killing of an inmate at Folsom State Prison.

Authorities say Richard Allen Leonard died Saturday morning after he was attacked by someone wielding what was described as a "slashing type" weapon.

Prison spokesman Lt. Paul Baker says the 44-year-old Leonard was serving a 25 year to life term after being convicted in 1998 in Orange County for aggravated sexual assault on a child.

Baker says investigators have not identified a suspect.

Folsom State Prison is a medium security prison that houses more than 3,100 inmates.

Opened in 1880, it is the second oldest prison in California.

Nanny helps stop Folsom home burglary

FOLSOM, CA - A burglar was arrested Friday afternoon after a nanny getting to work heard a noise at the back of the home on Fratis Street.

Andrew Christian Heitmeyer, 23, was arrested as he tried to run from police, Folsom police said.

When the nanny heard the noise, she called to her employer, thinking it was him. However, when the employer came home, the homeowner looked around the home and found that he was burglarized.

As the nanny and homeowner looked though the home, they encountered Heitmeyer, who fled the home out the back sliding door, Folsom police said.

A neighbor chased after Heitmeyer when he tried to break into the neighbor's home.

Folsom police eventually arrested Heitmeyer on one count of burglary. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail and held on a $130,000 bail.

Car strikes Folsom bowling alley, 5 injured

FOLSOM, CA - A woman suspected of driving under the influence Tuesday morning crashed into a Folsom bowling alley around 12:30 a.m.

Sgt. Jason Browning of the Folsom Police Dept. said 41-year-old Tera Nicholson of Folsom had been drinking inside the Lake Bowl alley at 511 East Bidwell St. prior to leaving, getting in her car and crashing into the alley's patio.  The patio area is commonly used by patrons for smoking.

Five people were taken to the hospital with injuries, with the most serious being a broken arm, said Browning.

Nicholson was arrested and charged with DUI and causing great bodily harm, Browning said.

Browning said investigators would be looking into whether surveillance video from the bar captured the incident.  They will also be talking with bar managers and bartenders, to see if Nichols was over-served before leaving.
