“I’m one of those people who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, so juggling is out of the question,” Laura Scarborough said.

Laura Scarborough’s blog, Adventures in Juggling, is about a Manteca mom’s life with a husband, five kids, one of which has special needs, three pets and being a RN at the neo-natal intensive care unit, NICU.

“We started in 2005, back then it was a kind of a curiosity.”

Laura started journaling after her son Daniel was born. Daniel was born premature and has autism [CORRECTION: Daniel was born premature and has many struggles related to his extreme premature birth, Laura said in her blog].

Of all the wood-destroying organisms that pest control professionals deal with, termites are the most infamous.  They are responsible for billions of damage to homes and businesses in Northern California and throughout the world.

Populations of termite colonies are comprised of the queen, workers and soldiers.  All are female.  In the spring a mature colony will produce winged reproductive of both sexes, called alates.  This is the only time of year when males are present.  There are two termite species that infest structures in our region: Dry wood and Subterranean.  Of the two, the subterranean species causes the most damage to structures spring and sometimes Fall are the seasons when these insects are noticed more readily, as the alates (sometimes confused with flying ants) emerge from mud tubes created by mature colonies.  This emergence usually happens in the evening, just prior to dusk.  The alates fly and mate.  After

Folsom Hosts AMGEN Tour of California Viewing Party

Cycling aficionados will gather in Historic Folsom to watch competitors in America’s largest cycling event, the AMGEN Tour of California, race through town on Tuesday morning, May 17.

Folsom is hosting a viewing party on Historic Sutter Street near the intersection of Riley between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.  The racers will cross the picturesque Rainbow Bridge, the entrance to the Historic District, at approximately 10:45 a.m. 

“We anticipate a large crowd to cheer on the cyclists at this premier viewing location,” says Folsom’s Parks and Recreation Director Robert Goss.  He notes that the Sutter/Riley intersection is also the site of the first designated sprint point for the day – the “Folsom Prison Breakaway Sprint.”  The first racer to reach the designated point will receive a $1,000 cash prize donated by local businesses and the Folsom Tourism Bureau.

National Study Showing Increase in Cosmetic Surgery for Men Reflected in Sacramento Patients

Statistics just released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in men increased in 2010 compared to 2009.

Individual male surgical procedures that showed significant increase included:

Facelifts for men rose 14 percent in 2010, while male liposuction increased 7 percent.

In total, men underwent more than 1.1 million cosmetic procedures in 2010, both minimally invasive and surgical. Also, according to the ASPS, the majority of men’s top 10 fastest growing procedures are surgical, bucking the previous trend in the growth of minimally invasive treatments.
