A hero's welcome set Thursday for Staff Sgt. Sky R. Mote

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense announced the death of Staff Sgt. Sky R. Mote of El Dorado.

Mote, 27, was killed Aug. 10 during combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion out of Camp Pendleton, California, and served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Thursday this fallen hero is coming home, and his family could use your support.

A Hero's Welcome is scheduled at McClellan Air Force Base on Thursday, August 16 at 4:30 at Hanger 3.

Arden Little League majors advance in All Star play

SACRAMENTO, CA. - With coach Steve Edwards at the helm and pitcher J.P. McKeever throwing at the plate, Arden Little League's major All Stars advanced to the third round in post-season play, beating Whitney Avenue 2-1 Monday night in Citrus Heights. 

Whitney will play Eastern Tuesday morning in the double elimination play, after beating them last week. The winner of Tuesday's game will face Arden on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Northridge.

The eleven and twelve year olds defeated the Northridge All-Stars 12-2 in their first game of the tournament at host Northridge. Northridge got off to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After that it was all Arden as all 14 players put the ball in play. Miles Edwards pitched a fantastic 5 innings with 12 strikeouts.

Todd Gearou, Sacramento based film producer, remembers well moving to Sacramento at age 15, with horror sweeping our communities as the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker continued his rampage of terror.  Having committed 50+ rapes and 10 murders attributed to the East Area Rapist, he, if still alive or not imprisoned, is nightmarishly still at large.  Says Gearou, “anyone who lived in the Sacramento area during the late 1970s will easily recall the overwhelming fear that California’s most prolific serial rapist and possibly future murderer had over this area.” 

Gearou, like many others, including law enforcement, often wondered what happened to this night phantom some 26 years after his last murder in Irvine, Ca (1986).

California Family Fitness Unveils Beach Body Training Program

Today, California Family Fitness announced a new training program, Beach Body Training, which will offer participants the opportunity to work out in a small group setting with a certified personal trainer and achieve weight loss goals.

“Group personal training programs like Beach Body Training allow people to get the results they want, while enjoying the company and camaraderie of others,” said Jason Mathes, Fitness Director at California Family Fitness. “With multiple sources of motivation, it’s easier to stay focused, on track and reach your fitness goals.”

The Beach Body Training program is a six-week long group training program, in which the participants are coached by a trainer through twice weekly group workout sessions, and educated on exercise habits, nutrition and lifestyle changes.
