Folsom High School wins 2011 Sacramento County Academic Decathlon

For the second consecutive year, Folsom High School is the winner of the Sacramento County Academic Decathlon competition. Folsom High School now advances to State Finals, which will be held in March 11-14, 2011 in Sacramento.

Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools David W. Gordon announced individual and team winners of the 31st Annual Sacramento County Academic Decathlon, held February 5 at Inderkum High School.  The top scorers were honored February 9 at an awards banquet presented by the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) at the Sacramento State University Ballroom.

Twenty-five high schools in Sacramento County sent teams to compete February 5 in written and oral exams at Inderkum High School.

Feb. 25 deadline for Assistance League of Sacramento scholarships

“Assistance League of Sacramento will award $500 scholarships for the second time through its Scholarship Program, and application packages must be postmarked by February 25, 2011,” announced President Liz Stenstrom. 

The goal is to provide college access for motivated local students.  This year, students from six (6) local community colleges will participate in the scholarship program.  They are American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, Sacramento City College, Sierra College, and Woodland Community College. 

The requirements are that students must:
*Have life circumstances that are more difficult than most
*Be a continuing student who has successfully completed a minimum of 6 units
*Currently be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units
*Have a grade point average of 2.0 or above
*Be a resident of California
*Be willing to maintain communication with Assistance League of Sacramento regarding educatio
